Blast Furnace Gas Flow Measurement

The blast furnace stands as a monumental component of steel production in the steel industry. This towering structure, often reaching several stories high, functions as the primary unit where raw materials like iron ore, coke, and limestone undergo a complex transformation into molten iron. The process begins by loading these raw materials into the top of the blast furnace. Inside, the intense heat generated by combustion ascends from the bottom, creating an environment conducive to chemical reactions. The coke, a form of processed coal, acts as fuel, while the limestone is a flux to remove impurities from the iron ore. As the raw materials descend through the furnace, they're exposed to a stream of hot air called the "blast," which enters through tuyeres located near the base. This hot blast air facilitates the reduction of iron ore into molten iron. The blast furnace is a complex and critical element in the steelmaking process. Flow meters within this setting maintain a controlled environment, ensure efficient energy utilization, and support safe and productive steel production operations.

The Need for Flow Measurement:

The blast furnace devours raw materials like iron ore, coke, and limestone, breathing in the air to keep the flames roaring. A blast furnace needs the right balance of ingredients and oxygen to thrive. That's where flow measurement comes in. By accurately measuring the flow of these materials, we can:

Optimize fuel efficiency: Knowing the exact amount of air and coke entering the furnace helps us tailor the combustion process for optimal heat generation and minimal fuel waste.

Enhance productivity: Precise control over the flow of raw materials ensures the furnace receives the ideal blend for smooth operation and maximized output.

Prevent operational hiccups: Fluctuations in flow can lead to imbalances, jeopardizing the furnace's stability and potentially causing dangerous situations.

Solution of flow measurement provided by Burak Metering:

Several flow meter types find applications in blast furnaces within the steel industry. Differential Pressure (DP) flow meters, Ultrasonic flow meters, Magnetic flow meters, Vortex flow meters, and Thermal flow meters are commonly utilized. These meters help accurately measure and monitor various flows, such as cooling water, gas, or air, supporting efficient operations within blast furnaces without compromising safety or productivity.

Burak recommended models are: Burak Thermal Mass Flow Meter BT-3000-G, Burak Thermal Mass Flow Meter BT-3020-G & Burak Vortex Flow Meter BX-6010-G.
